OCRI Hosts Field Demonstration Meeting on Integrated ‘Oilseed–Rice Annual High-Yield and Efficiency-Enhancing Technologies'
On April 23, the Oil Crops Research Institute (OCRI) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), hosted a field demonstration meeting on the integration and large-scale demonstration of annual high-yield and efficiency-enhancing technologies for the oilseed–rice cropping system in Liling, Hunan Province, alongside a parallel workshop on the National Key Research and Development Program sub-project. More than 50 participants attended the event, including officials from the Liling Municipal Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, project advisory experts, key project representatives, and large-scale farmers.
Participants conducted an on-site inspection of a demonstration base of over 2,000 mu in Meiyue Town. The contiguous rapeseed fields showed compact plant architecture, well-filled pods, and uniform growth, receiving unanimous recognition from attendees. To address key production constraints in the local oilseed–rice–ratoon cropping system—such as cropping interval conflicts, low-temperature waterlogging, and insufficient sunlight—the demonstration area selected suitable varieties for crop rotation scheduling and applied key technologies including deep ditching for waterlogging prevention using machinery, the ‘one promotion and four prevention’ strategy during flowering, and centralized rice seedling cultivation. These integrated measures effectively overcame technical bottlenecks in annual oilseed–rice–ratoon production systems in the region.
Since the implementation of the project, the integrated demonstration technologies have significantly improved large-scale yields of both rapeseed and rice. The innovations have been extended to surrounding areas, covering a total of more than 150,000 mu.
