Professor Edgar B.Cahoon from UNL visited OCRI-CAAS

Prof. Edgar B. Cahoon, the director of Center for Plant Science and Innovation of University of Nebraska-Lincoln, visited the Oil Crops Research Institute (OCRI) of CAAS in Wuhan on December 11, 2015.
 

During his visit, Prof. Cahoon delivered a presentation with a title as “Metabolic engineering for enhanced oilseed fatty acid compositions”. He briefly introduced researches conducted in his lab about metabolic engineering for production of high-value fatty acids in seeds of Camelina sativa. The discovery of the novel fatty acids in Orychophragmus violaceus and progress on understanding the biosynthesis pathway were also presented. Related issues were discussed after his presentation among the audience.

 

 
Prof. Cahoon visited the labs for peanut research, and scientists from the Peanut Team introduced the overview of peanut industry in China and high oleate peanut breeding. Prof. Cahoon also visited the lab of product processing. Prof. Hong Chen showed him the facilities and methods on lipid analysis. In addition, potential cooperation between his lab and OCRI was discussed.
