The laboratory has been working as the national coordinating agency for germplasm research if oil crops in China. Emphasis has given to collection, conservation, characterization and enhancement of rapeseed, soybean, peanut, sesame, safflower and castor. A largest collection of oilseed germplasm in China consisting of 27000 accessions from worldwide has been assembled, characterized and conserved in the National Mid-term Genebank at OCRI. A lot of elite germplasm lines identified have been extensively used in breeding.
