The sustainable development of oilseed production is important for the national food security and even energy security in the future. Meanwhile, it is highly related to the livelihoods of nearly 400 millions farmers in China. Since China became a member of WTO, the industry of oil crops has been seriously challenged by international market, and hence improving the competitiveness of the industry is of great significance. Under the support of Chinese central government and Hubei provincial government, the Oil Crops Research Institute (OCRI) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) has made remarkable progress in scientific research and technology development for oil crops. These achievements have greatly contributed to production increase, quality improvement and industrialization of oil crops in the country. With the initiation of the CAAS Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Program (ASTIP), OCRI would try its best for further cooperation with colleagues in China and international communities for advancing oil crops research with increased contribution to ensuring the national food security, promoting rural development and increasing farmers' income.
